Job Purpose:

The role of the Tree Cutter exists to ensure safe and effective vegetation management around power lines and associated equipment to improve both Quality of Supply and Customer satisfaction.

 

Dimensions:

  • Carry out both planned and reactive Utility Arb Tree Cutting operations at all voltages in all Areas across the whole Region
  • Be available to carry out fault related tree cutting when and where required across the whole region
  • Provide excellent customer service and satisfaction
  • Cut to a high standard to meet requirements of BS 3998 and G55/3
  • Work towards achieving zero harm

 

Principal Accountabilities:

  • Carry out various tree cutting operations as requested utilising techniques from Ground, Aerial(climbing) and MEWP
  • Carry out on site specific risk assessments
  • Comply with all relevant UKPN safety policies and procedures
  • All work to comply to G55/2 and cutting to meet requirements of BS3998
  • Utilise all required Personal Protective Equipment
  • Maintain a high level of health and safety awareness for both their self, their colleagues and members of the public at all times
  • Understands tree growth characteristics and demonstrates sound tree risk assessment skills
  • Uses and maintains vehicles, chippers, chainsaws, hand saws and other arboricultural hand tools in accordance with industry safe practice
  • Understands and develops knowledge associated with working around electrical equipment
  • Reports for work at the local office or designated work site on time each day
  • Manage work loads efficiently and to time.
  • Demonstrate and provide high level of customer service at all times
  • Carry out any other duties as requested by your Line Manager
  • Attendance at monthly Face 2 Face Briefings.

 

Knowledge, Skills, Qualifications and Experience:

  • Relevant NPTC (or equivalent) Certification including UA1, UA2.1, UA2.2, UA2.3, CS30, CS31, CS32, CS38, CS39, CS40, CS41, CS47
  • Utility cutting experience preferred
  • Basic First Aid certificate
  • Full Driving Licence
  • Signing, Lighting and Guarding (Chapter 8) certification
  • Ability to work in a pressured environment as part of a highly focused team.
  • Trained in the use of Mobile Elevating Work Platforms (MEWP) IPAF or equivalent
  • LANTRA or equivalent Brushwood Chipper Operations
  • Experience working in a customer focussed environment
  • Team working – The drive and ability to work co-operatively with others to achieve shared goals and optimise the contribution of all members of the team.
  • Training will be provided for the right candidates who do not hold all qualifications

 

Measures of Success:

  • Reduction in the expenditure on non contract cyclical cutting works
  • No complaints.
  • No Electricity Guaranteed Standards failures.
  • No Street Works Act failures.
  • Robust attendance to out of normal hours faults.
  • Ensure attendance to Face 2 Face on a monthly basis.
  • To achieve zero days lost due to accidents.
  • To achieve minimal non-lost time accidents each year.

 

Health & Safety Responsibilities
