Business Administration Apprentice Role



The Technical Training team are recruiting for two Level 3 Business Administration (ST0070) Apprentices. Technical Training are a vital business area in UK Power Networks, keeping the business moving by ensuring that staff are equipped with the right skills, competencies and training to safely work on the electricity network.


UK Power Networks is an employer provider for the company’s engineering apprentices. That means that we have approval to deliver apprenticeship training for our operational apprentices. In this varied role Business Administration Apprentices will support Technical Training to coordinate the apprenticeship programmes, keep up to date with Education and Skills Funding Agency rules and help recruit new cohorts of engineering apprentices.


Following our first full Ofsted inspection UK Power Networks gained an outcome of ‘Good’ with two areas of ‘Outstanding’. This apprenticeship will support UK Power Networks towards gaining an overall grade of ‘Outstanding’.


By the end of the two-year apprenticeship individuals will be trained to deliver the following activity:

  • Typing letters to learners with speed and accuracy
  • Accurate data entry of data required for the Education and Skills Funding Agency and other databases in line with Data Protection rules
  • Production of reports and data analysis
  • Operate internal Learning Management system (LMS) to manage learner training plans and monitor completion of modules
  • Maintain filing of learner information, including course certificates and training diaries
  • Proactively assist with the smooth running of the office
  • Ordering of equipment and resources for learners
  • Booking of transport and accommodation for learners
  • Organising meetings and the required facilities for these meetings e.g room bookings and catering requirements.
  • Liaising with both internal and external stakeholders of the Engineering Apprenticeship Programmes
  • Maintain and manage apprentice training diaries and records
  • Support arrangements to organise ad hoc events (e.g. Inductions, Parent Evenings, Safety Stand Down Days)

The Process

The selection process for the Business Administration apprentices will consist of one stage:

  • Interview with Hiring Manager and HR representative


Key information:

  • Successful applicant must be able to organise their own transport to travel to the office location.
  • In addition, the successful applicant must be willing to apply for a basic DBS check which will paid for by UK Power Networks.
  • The candidate will work towards successfully achieving an Apprenticeship in Business Administration Level 3 through East Surrey College.


Health & Safety Responsibilities

Managers and supervisors carry both legal and company responsibilities for ensuring the health and safety of their employees, those under their control and those who might be affected by the work undertaken, i.e. public, visitors and employees of other organisations. This includes briefing individuals working for them and ensuring there is the necessary understanding, competence and application of requirements to work safely and without harming the environment.


Employees will ensure they fully understand the health and safety risks involved in their work activities and their responsibility to apply the controls needed to manage those risks to acceptable levels. Similarly where work activities can have an adverse impact upon the environment, and particularly where there are legal requirements, employees will understand those impacts and the controls they must ensure are applied.

Employees need to be aware that for some craft and operational roles that work at height, or use fall arrest devices, there is an upper weight limit of 116Kg due to maximum safe working load of the safety equipment that is used.
