This Fitter will report to the Lead Operational Engineer and will work within UKPN Services based in our Stansted office. You will be a permanent employee.

You will attract a salary of £43,898 plus benefits and a bonus of 3%

Job Purpose

The Electrical Fitter role is to ensure delivery of all planned construction and operations, inspections and maintenance functions on Airport Sector's Client infrastructure. You will incorporate construction, operation and maintenance and is a multi site role. You will deliver all aspects of inspections, construction and maintenance activities.

 

You will undertake the construction and maintenance of the UK Power Networks Services owned Client assets or other assets as directed by the Operational Engineer. You will work for the onsite Senior Authorised Person who is responsible for Safety and ensuring that there is no disruption to the electricity supply.

 

Principal Accountabilities

  • Construction and Maintenance of the UK Power Networks Services owned assets through the range 33kV to 400V,
  • Assist the Operational Engineer in meeting maintenance targets on time and within budget,
  • Competent to enter substations, receive safety documentation and manage site safety,
  • LV Authorised Person with further possible progression to HV and SAP,
  • Operate and update Asset database in respect of project activities,
  • Contribute to fault investigations and repairs
  • Competent to manage planned substation inspections,
  • Conversant with manufacturers maintenance regimes,
  • Comply with UK Power Networks Services inspection and maintenance procedures (follow maintenance job plans),
  • Use the asset management system (SAP) for recording on-site work undertaken,
  • Competent to manage contractors,
  • Competent in basic workshop fitting skills,
  • Test protection systems and devices,
  • Manage reactive and minor construction work for distribution system up keep,
  • Maintain records of all completed operations, inspections and maintenance test sheets and safety documentation,
  • Undertake additional activities according to the job level and competency,

 

Duties General:

  • Assist the Operational Engineer in maintaining the very best in client relationships,
  • Follow the requirements detailed in Method Statements and Risk Assessments,
  • Embrace "Stay Safe" and "IPR" content,
  • Competent to write and follow the requirements detailed in Method Statements and Risk Assessments,
  • Compliance with UK Power Networks Services Procedures covering all matters related to Health, Safety, Quality and the Environment,
  • Comply with the putting to work / being put to work process and only undertaking tasks authorised to undertake unless suitable guidance has been provided,
  • Identify and report hazards and rectify
  • Comply with UK Power Networks Services purchasing procedures,
  • Complete timesheets and expenses claims within specified time
  • Work in a self-governing way
  • Attend and contribute to team briefings, meetings and committees
  • To perform any tasks commensurate to your grade and competency such as switchgear, transformer and battery maintenance, substations inspection and cleaning,
  • Subject to the correct competencies, perform LV fault locations and termination and jointing of LV cables,
  • Provide guidance of contractors and personnel
  • Manage substation inspections to meet the maintenance standards
  • Ensure all substation compounds are kept clean tidy and free from vegetation

 

Nature and Scope

You will be an important member of the Airport Sector's team and will work together with departmental management.

 

You will in most cases report to the Lead Operational Engineer and manage the delivery of the scheduled operations, inspections and maintenance work and assist with project (construction) work.

 

You will ensure that all operations, inspections and maintenance activities are completed on time, together with addressing reactive (unplanned) and outstanding work that has been deferred due to operational or customer reasons.

 

Your main challenge is to ensure that all operations, inspections and maintenance activities are delivered together with the required inspection and maintenance plan each year.

 

Provide necessary support within the team. Attend and contribute to team briefings, meetings and committees.

 

Qualifications

Essential

 

The job requires someone with;

  • Experience in Operational Construction and Maintenance work planning.
  • Traceable work history.
  • Criminal Record Check.
  • Obtain Client Infrastructure Security Passes.
  • Medical and Drugs and Alcohol screening.
  • Full drivers licence.
  • As a minimum a Competent Person working towards Authorised Person status to switch on high and low voltage systems and to issue Limitations-of-Access.
  • Operational understanding systems through the range 33kV to 400v.
  • Experience undertaking routine inspection and maintenance activities.
  • Use the Asset Management System (SAP).
  • Fit and willing to be trained to work in confined spaces.
  • Either PASMA certified or able and willing to be trained for prefabricated scaffold erection
  • Compliance with UK Power Networks Services Operations and Maintenance Procedures relating to Health, Safety, Quality and the Environment.
  • Follow the requirements detailed in Method Statements and Risk Assessments.
  • Identify and report hazards and rectify
  • You will need to be self governing , flexible and have a changeable approach to resolving issues
  • Competent to undertake maintenance and construction activities on a range of LV equipment including street lighting furniture and distribution equipment.
  • A pro active approach to carrying out a range of activities including cleaning of substations and any other tasks required by the lead operational engineer.

 

Health & Safety Responsibilities

Employees need to be aware that for some craft and operational roles that work at height, or use fall arrest devices, there is an upper weight limit of 116Kg due to maximum safe working load of the safety equipment that is used.
