The purpose of the role is to provide competent quality management advice to promote compliance to ISO 9001: 2015 in the review, audit, certification, induction and management of procedures and processes in electrical infrastructure construction projects.





1.  Provides Quality Management advice in relation to ISO 9001: 2015 to other advisors, managers, employees, contractors and clients, both in the tendering and construction phases. With the aim to maintain and enhance UK Power Networks Services’ quality management system to ensure it is able to effectively design, build, finance, operate and maintain primary electrical infrastructure for its clients.

2.  Contributes to the review of existing and the development of new procedures/processes. Procedures include those from central UK Power Networks group as well as those which are UK Power Networks Services’ project/contract specific. There will also be involvement in the communication, implementation and monitoring within the directorate;

3.  Monitors compliance with ISO 9001: 2015, procedures, legal and moral obligations, and national, international and client standards. Able to plan project audits against agreed level 2, 3 and 4 schedules. Will undertake quality management system audits, produce audit reports and ensure findings are resolved in a timely manner.

4.  Assists and offers guidance to Project Managers in reviewing quality related project documents and requirements. Develops appropriate quality management system inductions, training and communication materials for the project team and subcontractors. Gathers lessons learnt and maintains the project cost of poor quality process. Provides Project Managers with quality related updates for inclusion in monthly reports. Where appropriate, supports any quality management system incident investigations.

5.  Provides a monitoring function to ensure that suppliers, subcontractors and the services they provide meet or exceed the company quality management system expectations. This may include conducting external audits and undertaking random performance inspections of field teams to identify issues requiring improvement as well as highlighting good performance.

6.  Monitor site certification of materials and equipment, including tool calibration, to ensure compliance with client and project requirements. To maintain associated project records to be able to compile final data book documentation.

7.  Facilitates third party audits of UK Power Networks Services by external certification bodies. Champions effective quality management system processes in the business to ensure certification requirements are maintained.

The post holder will report to the Quality and Assurance Manager and be a member of the UK Power Networks Services Quality and Assurance team.

The post holder will be visiting UKPN Services and client offices as well as project sites on a regular basis.


The post holder must be able to work closely with management across all directorates. They must have also the gravitas to routinely represent the company at operational/project level with external stakeholders.



  • Be a Practitioner member of the Chartered Quality Institute with an aspiration to gain Chartered status, which the company will support;
  • HNC (minimum requirement) qualification in a discipline such as Quality Management, Construction, Project Management or Technical/Engineering;
  • To have demonstrable quality management system experience gained in the construction industry is essential (manufacturing based experience would not be suitable);
  • Be self-motivated and able to work independently, a good communicator with a flexible approach to problem solving and root cause analysis is essential;
  • The ability to be flexible in their approach to work and be able to prioritise as directed by the Quality and Assurance Manager and Project Manager on assigned projects or contracts;
  • Be a QMS Auditor/Internal QMS Auditor with experience in auditing to ISO 9001: 2015;
  • Ability to audit to ISO 14001: 2015 and ISO 45001: 2018 requirements would be advantageous;
  • Knowledge of ISO 55001: 2014, ISO 44001: 2017, ISO 19650-1: 2018, ISO 19650-2: 2018, ISO 19650-3: 2020 and ISO 19650-5: 2020 would be useful;
  • Ability to build good working relationships within a team and with other staff and clients within the business;
  • Have excellent communication, presentation, planning and decision making skills at all seniority levels;
  • Possess the ability to work with IT software packages such as Microsoft office;
  • Hold a valid UK driving licence;
  • Ability to attain various client access passes and licenses that may be required to work within industries such as airports, defence, nuclear, rail and underground rail;



Health & Safety Responsibilities

Employees need to be aware that for some craft and operational roles that work at height, or use fall arrest devices, there is an upper weight limit of 116Kg due to maximum safe working load of the safety equipment that is used.
