This Control System Data Technician will report to the Control Systems Diagram Manager and will work within Network Operations based in our Fore Hamlet office. You will be a permanent employee.

 

You will attract a salary of £39,283 and a bonus of 3%.

Job Purpose:

The role of Control Systems Data Technician is to maintain the control system diagram and associated data for EPN, LPN and SPN networks. The quality of our control system diagram ensures a positive impact on safety, performance and reporting which aligns with UK Power Networks vision and values.

Principal Accountabilities:

  • Modify and maintain the graphical schematic representation of the Control Diagram.
  • Modify and maintain the electrical connectivity model of the Control Diagram.
  • Modify and maintain the hierarchical data model supporting the Control System data.
  • Modify and maintain plant and asset data relating to Control System devices.
  • Modify and maintain the DERMs world on behalf of the DSO team.
  • Operate the SAN (System Alteration Notice) process to ensure accurate and efficient maintenance of the control system diagram.
  • Liaison with Control and SCADA commissioning teams to ensure accurate representation of the control network diagram.
  • Liaison with operational field staff and asset management staff to ensure the accuracy of data sources with a view to improvement.
  • Provide diagram administration services to the Control Systems and Automation team to support new Control System functionality, Quality of Supply and Improvement plans.
  • Provide Call linking or Low and Grounded conductors storm role.
  • Quality assurance of the SAN and data modification process.

 

 

Nature and scope:

The Control Systems Data Technician reports to the Control Systems Diagram Manager within the Control Systems and Automation team. The Control Systems and Automation team are dedicated to making UK Power Networks Control Systems world class.

The team goal is to improve safety, application performance, innovation, data accuracy and usability with a view to reduce CI's and CML's whilst maximising return on investment. Important to this is providing a Control System solution and service that is accessible and beneficial to the entire business.

 

You will participate in the dynamic and efficient daily operation of the Diagram Administration team. In 2024 the Diagram Administration team processed 13,000 SAN changes, 6,500 general modifications, 4,000 minor system enhancements, 2,500 modifications relating to quality of supply and project-based work and 140,500 EPN Pole Renumbering circuits in addition to providing other support roles to the Control Systems and Automation team.

Qualifications:

You will have a sound understanding of the distribution network and can demonstrate a commitment towards safety and meeting business targets. We ask that you have the ability to communicate with other departments and improve processes.

  • Relevant industry experience.
  • Have or be working towards a City and Guilds 2339.
  • Sound knowledge of the distribution network from LV to 132kV.
  • Experience with the network control function.
  • Diagram and data administrator beneficial.
  • PowerOn DMS or other graphical editor toolsets beneficial.
  • Good working knowledge in Microsoft Excel.
