This Field Staff Supervisor will report to the Operations Manager and will work within UKPN Services based in our Heathrow Airport office. You will be a permanent employee.

You will attract a salary of £65,241 plus car and a bonus of 3%.

Job Purpose:

The Field Staff Supervisor ensures the performance of assigned field teams in the Area and will interface with the other Supervisors, Managers, Field Engineers and Planners in the Region to ensure that the best possible utilisation of resources is achieved, and the highest levels of on-site productivity are realised. The postholder is required to support and achieve the goal of zero harm in all aspects of their work.

 

Dimensions:

  • Staff: circa 20 craftspersons
  • Financial authority to approve corporate card expense claims following FAL limit (£2000)
  • Approval of personal expenses and mileage up to the value of £500.
  • Authorisation to sign and approve timesheets and holiday bookings

 

Principle Accountabilities:

  • Ensure a high standard of safety management prevails throughout your responsibilities through site safety audits and ensuring that safety performance is maintained within parameters defined by the Executive, promoting Zero Harm and ensuring the health and welfare of the team is maintained.
  • Daily planning, coordination and real-time responsibility for the efficient utilisation of resources for both directly employed staff and contractors. Ensure resource scheduling is up-to-date and that work is available to maximise the utilisation of resources. As well as improve the productivity of field staff and term contractors to ensure unit costs are improved.
  • Work with other Supervisors, Managers, Field Engineers, staff and Schedulers in the area to ensure the best utilisation of all staff and to improve customer experiences. Ensure utilisation of staff resources in compliance with company policies and procedures.
  • Manage project and faults on site works processes to improve the quality and consistency of jointing. Work with colleagues to rectify defects and utilise defect rectification work to improve the utilisation of staff.
  • Communicate with Engineers/Supervisors / Designers to ensure delivery of work packages and forward planning of resources. As well as ensure that all hours reported through time sheets are representative of the job.
  • Manage and co-ordinate the transport fleet, plant and equipment to meet operational requirements.
  • Ensure the return of all work packages observing Project process and International Standards Organisation (ISO).
  • To interpret and act in response to management reports that go to the Client Delivery Managers that are supportive in the monitoring and control of resources, including balanced scorecard to ensure the return of all work packages observing service and quality standards such as Information and Incentives Project (IIP) and International Standards Organisation (ISO) documentation.
  • Provide support to the Operations Manager in the running of the airport, e.g. involvement in the strategic vision and implementation/charge management of the area.
  • You will establish a process of continuous improvement through IPR reviews, the development of staff and the utilisation of new technology. You will also ensure that staff comply with procedures, work to a high-quality, and the removal of barriers to efficient delivery of work.
  • Responsible for all people management aspects of your team, including performance management.
  • You will be an essential member of the Project team. The Project team delivers the programme of work associated with new build and upgrades to the network, repairing network faults and carrying out Network Asset Management Plan (NAMP) replacement works.
  • As Field Staff Supervisor, you will be an important member of the Area management team and will ensure that jobs are undertaken safely and following design, airport operations and contractual requirements. you will also take an important role in collaborating with the civil team and other contractors to ensure maximum productivity on site. You will lead a team to achieve a sustainable culture, company values and safety achieved by:
    • Ensure compliance with procedures
    • Demonstrate visible leadership by regular site visits
    • Lead by example and demonstrating safe working practices and behaviours
    • Monitor the health and wellbeing of all staff ensuring that control strategies for managing health hazards are complied with.

  • You will attend all training courses relevant to the role and ensure their staff also comply

 

Knowledge and Experience:

  • Experienced resource manager or Supervisor
  • Experience with electrical distribution and be familiar with organisational policies and procedures and ensure their implementation at local level
  • Have a understanding of the range and type of both professional and trade skills that are necessary in delivering field work.
  • Ideally of a technical background; typically, from a Fitter/Jointer/ background.
  • Ideally an ONC qualification or minimum of City & Guilds 2339 (formally 232) in Electrical Power Engineering.
  • You will either hold an Institute of Occupational Safety & Health (IOSH) certificate in managing health and safety or be willing to obtain this IOSH certificate within a timescale agreed with your manager. (New recruits will pass the IOSH managing qualification within six months of being appointed to the role).
  • You will be an important member of the Operations team and must be balanced in all matters, in particular those relating to people at all levels in the organisation.
  • Understand the range and type of both professional and trade skills that are important in delivering field work.
  • Work across Services as required, in a collaborative manner.

 

Competencies:

  • Field Staff Supervisor will communicate with Managers across Network Operations and cross directorate. You will also have to establish working relationships with colleagues.
  • Be literate in a range of systems after training to include the corporate asset management system, including those that support good utilisation and performance management of staff.
  • Can manage absences, team related HR issues, daily people management ensuring successful selection, training and assessment of team.
  • The ability to improve performance of less experienced team members through coaching and support so as to achieve overall goals.
  • Encourage change by means of engaging in consultation and change programs to ensure the achievement of performance.
  • Good ability to manage people including the ability to work with partners to resolve issues, and ensure that unresolved problems are brought to the attention of senior management.

Health & Safety Responsibilities

Managers and supervisors carry both legal and company responsibilities for ensuring the health and safety of their employees, those under their control and those who might be affected by the work undertaken, i.e. public, visitors and employees of other organisations. This includes briefing individuals working for them and ensuring there is the necessary understanding, competence and application of requirements to work safely and without harming the environment.

Employees will ensure they understand the health and safety risks involved in their work activities and their responsibility to apply the controls needed to manage those risks to acceptable levels. Similarly where work activities can have an adverse impact upon the environment, and where there are legal requirements, employees will understand those impacts and the controls they must ensure are applied.

Employees need to be aware that for some craft and operational roles that work at height, or use fall arrest devices, there is an upper weight limit of 116Kg due to maximum safe working load of the safety equipment that is used.
