This Operational Engineer will report to the Lead Operational Engineer and will work within UKPN Services - Client Delivery based in our Gatwick office. You will be a permanent employee.

You will attract a salary of £65,241 plus business needs car and a bonus of 3%

Job Purpose:

The Operational Engineer role is to undertake operation and maintenance tasks and on the high voltage network, up to 11kV (33kV), working as part of a team to deliver agreed targets.

Although based at the site above and working in that area you will develop your skills and authorisations to work on any of the projects within UKPN Services. Certain areas of work will require you to attain appropriate clearances and passes.

 

Principal Accountabilities:

  • Operational works on electrical networks, for the contract and other areas.
  • Ensure contractual obligations are met
  • Seek new opportunities with clients
  • Perform operational AP/ SAP/ Control tasks at 11kV (33kV)
  • Operation and Maintenance of the HV/LV Client and UKPNS owned assets up to 11kV (33kV) including switchgear, transformers, isolators and switches.
  • Maintenance and testing of the 11kV (33kV) and LV Control and Protection Relays and Systems
  • Ensure compliance with CDM and UK Power Networks Health and Safety policies
  • Develop site specific H,S & E procedures
  • Compliance with UK Power Networks quality policies
  • Operate and update Asset database for work competed
  • Responsible for both reactive and planned maintenance activities
  • Perform fault investigation and repairs.
  • Operational Stand By working with a site Rota
  • Modify equipment and drawings to ensure the efficient operation of the substations
  • Ensure the compliance with the distribution safety rules during all activities.
  • Oversee all contractors/staff working on site
  • Provide technical and practical support as part of the team to deliver all planned works in addition to all Operations and Maintenance delivery requirements.
  • Attend and contribute to team briefings, give feed-back
  • Work unsocial hours to respond to system faults and complete maintenance activities

 

Qualifications:

  • Experience in the Operational and maintenance of distribution systems up to 11kV (33kV)
  • 11kv (33KV) operational Control Engineer or in training
  • Cleared Medical and Drugs and Alcohol screening
  • Educated to a minimum of ONC (HNC) level qualification, or equivalent, in Electrical Engineering
  • Relevant Safety Qualification such as IOSH
  • Read schematic and line drawings and understand content
  • Work in different environments, including confined spaces and at height
  • Track record within an Electrical distribution environment
  • Plan and analyse work
  • Identify problems, understand important issues and investigate alternatives
  • Strong interpersonal and customer facing skills
  • Hold full UK driving licence

  • Ensure all Health, Safety, Quality and Environmental requirements are considered.
  • Ensure safe working methods and systems are followed in the design
  • Meet and fulfil all UKPNS Health and Safety requirements.
  • Mentor junior staff in all matters relating to Health & Safety aligned with their role.
  • Ensure all relevant H&S Policy principles are briefed and implemented.
  • Communicate H&S information within their organisation. Promote feedback on H&S matters.
  • Create a safe working environment for all staff and contractors supporting the business.

 

Health & Safety Responsibilities:

Employees need to be aware that for some craft and operational roles that work at height, or use fall arrest devices, there is an upper weight limit of 116Kg due to maximum safe working load of the safety equipment that is used.
