This Procurement Manager will report to the Head of Procurement and will work within Procurement based in our London office. You will be a permanent employee.

You will attract a salary of depending on experience, car allowance, flexible benefit fund and a bonus of 10%. This role can also offer blended working after probationary period (6 months) - 3 days in the office and 2 remote

Job Purpose:

You will:

  • Contribute to the way UK Power Networks Services bid for works and mobilise supply chains for client contracts.
  • Lead the Category team who put long-term contracts that enables the UK Power Networks Services to grow their portfolio and EBITDA.
  • Create value for the business by thinking differently, challenging the status quo and delivering exceptional customer service.
  • Motivated person who will take on the task of the team that will procure, award, and deliver contracts relevant to bidding requirements which meaningfully contributes in helping the unregulated company (UK Power Networks Services) grow.
  • This will include gaining clear costs and back-to-back terms with supply chains, fronting the supply chain function to clients and driving the development of value once contracts have been secured. These will be across large and small projects ensuring safe mobilisation of supply chains across the UK.
  • Expand the supply chain and ensure continuous improvements within Supply Chain.
  • Key contact for the Services Senior Management team.
  • To provide monthly management information and reports on Procurement and supply-chain performance

Principle Accountabilities:

  • Contribute to the Growth of UK Power Networks Services and meeting growth targets.
  • Contribute to the improvement of the UK Power Networks Services Business Strategy.
  • Managing a diverse team (multi region) that is responsible for the collection of all supply chain costs for submission to external client to win bid work and Category team that ensures any follow-on long-term contracts that are required are tendered and contracts enabled.
  • Ensure accuracy that the team inputs into the cost from bid through to delivery including mobilisation risk meaning this role directly impacts the profit of the business
  • Execute contracts for client works maximising value that has an impact to the business profit on projects
  • Broad knowledge required with procurement across sectors for private utilities, rail, airports, smart storage, ports, defence and nuclear
  • Responsibility for working in project teams to identify and lead external sourcing strategies to maximise our value as a business and win client works this is used as a specific win theme to differentiate ourselves from competitors
  • Ensure key suppliers contract performance and management is enabled.

  • Responsible for management of all procurement bid value from submission to execution, including developing the sourcing strategy, the selection of suppliers and contractual terms best suited to the requirements
  • Maximise the value, measured through supply chain bid value to delivered value and a range of indicators, from UK Power Networks contractual arrangements utilising the development of contract strategies, contract development and lifecycle management
  • Perform activities that evaluate and use relationships with category suppliers including supporting partnerships and alliances
  • Manage compliance to all business, governance and legislative policies, initiatives and processes including competition law, internal contract governance and portfolio boards.
  • Be a internal consultant to simplify and find value through the supply chain design within bids & long-term contracts.
  • Attend the required governance / portfolio review meetings to ensure commercial accuracy

Nature and Scope:

UK Power Networks Services provides national infrastructure support and you will work in a dynamic team helping decarbonise the network and run likes of Eurostar, Heathrow, Gatwick etc. They operate throughout the UK and are experts in power distribution and distribution energy solutions.

As Procurement Manager, you are responsible for the development and provision of supply chains for client bids ranging in value. You will manage the team, provide clear steer and direction so that they can work on the bid approach with suppliers and build a clear supply-chain strategy, build back-to-back terms, commercial negotiations, and clear financial mechanisms to maximise the chance of winning and future profits to the business. You will need to manage risk and have awareness of the wider economic environment to ensure the value included in bids accounts for differing contract mechanisms including different contract forms, fixed vs variable costing and inflationary rises. A working commercial knowledge of contracts is required as you will create these requirements and managing risk.

You will manage the flow through from supply chain value submitted within client bids to ensuring safe, compliant mobilisation and tracking spend to ensure benefits are realised and procurement savings directly affecting profit margins. The role is therefore is bid facing operating across the lifecycle of supply chain costs into submitted costs to clients then the management of supply chain mobilisation. All information is captured and tracked through management information which you'll manage the reporting of this on a monthly basis to the Head of Procurement. Additionally the Procurement Manager will manage the Annual Pipeline which the Category Team will tender for, providing the direction and steer to ensure we have long-term contracts for all the key categories that the Services team bid for.

By performing the role of an internal consultant in all areas affecting Safety, Customer Service, Operational Performance and Cost, the Procurement Manager is also expected to seek out and drive continuous improvement and issue resolution within internal and external practices, processes and systems. In turn, this will be tracked to evidence increased bid winning and profitability.

You will use data from historic bids, build benchmarks and have an impact on work winning and profit margins within the business, this will include commercial modelling, risk modelling, SAP data analysis, spend analysis, should costs and PowerBI. The Procurement Manager will work with all internal stakeholders, including Senior Management, to deliver value adding change through improvement plans and innovation. This will include presenting to our Senior Management Team for bids submitted to clients.

The Project Procurement Lead will also play an important part in ensuring compliance with and encouraging improvements in the use of key UK Power Networks Services systems. You will have exposure to multiple projects across rail, airports, nuclear, private connections and utility works with the expectation of visiting different site, seeing the services and materials procured, building knowledge and ensuring contractual compliance.

Skills, Qualifications & Experience:

  • Leadership and team management experience
  • Experience of client-facing works including pricing bids with risk, EDITDA contributions and cost tracking preferred
  • Commercial acumen, contractual knowledge of different models and excellent stakeholder skills being adept at presenting and bid writing
  • Familiar with building strategies that align to business outcomes to meet client requirements. Responsibility for the creation, delivery and ongoing management of supply chain strategies for each client bid
  • Evidenced experience of strategic relationships with clients, supply chain and senior stakeholders that show trust, collaborative working and business benefits
  • Knowledge of complex supply chains across construction works and/or electrical projects an advantage
  • Working knowledge of different contracting models being able to negotiate terms
  • A high degree of procurement experience that is client-facing across projects
  • Ideally MCIPS chartered procurement professional
  • Degree or degree alternative educated
  • Have a excellent knowledge of strategic sourcing execution, i.e. cost, price and financial analysis, internal & external market analysis, category strategy, market testing and innovation.
  • Supplier relationship management
  • Strong IT skills, including SAP and Microsoft Excel & PowerPoint
