This Electrical Design Engineer will report to the Design Lead and will work within Capital Programme based in our London, near Canning Town office. You will be a permanent employee.
You will attract a salary of £65,241 and a bonus of 3%, Inner London Allowance and Car Allowance. This role can also offer blended working after probationary period (6 months) - 3 days in the office and 2 remote

Job Purpose:
Working across an Assets and Connections Portfolio, you will produce high quality electrical designs to an agreed scope, being delivered to cost, time, and quality targets.
All designs must meet UK Power Networks design and CDM standards. These designs could be for both non-contestable and contestable works.
You will work as part of a multi-disciplinary team, delivering design technical excellence.
Principal Accountabilities:
- Produce Electrical Designs that can be constructed in compliance with standards and CDM requirements with little or no supervision.
- Deliver effective designs, which conform to all relevant Codes of Practice and company and industry standards (for all designs relevant to UKPN Sub-stations), in conjunction with Electrical Design.
- Contribute to the production of technical, commercial, and contractual documents for procurement of engineering products.
- Ensure compliance with all relevant legislation, regulations, and company procedures.
- Compliance with design assurance and audit processes
- Preparation of concept and developed design, from specifications and drawings within defined periods.
- Provide an excellent service to the customer.
- Work as a Team Player within larger multi-disciplinary teams.
- Liaise with the operational teams to ensure a smooth process from initial enquiry through to final energisation and project closure.
- Comply with the requirements of the designer / principal designer as determined by the 2015 CDM Regulations
- Ensure design eliminates any hazards which may give rise to risks; and reduce risks from any remaining hazards (in conjunction with CDM)
- Support other members of the team to enhance their technical knowledge and experience.
Skills, Qualifications and Experience:
- Electrical engineering background in electrical engineering. Knowledge of power system and protection design at 132KV, 33KV, 11KV, and intermediate voltages.
- Knowledge of design processes and DNO, ENA and International Design Standards including relevant operational aspects to deliver designs
- Ability to work with external engineering organisations and customers/stakeholders representing UKPN to best effect.
- Ability to peer review designs within specific area
- A good safety culture and sound understanding of Construction Design and Management (CDM) Regulations and their application in this role.
- Identify innovative cost saving solutions.
- Good team working skills.
- A good level of business, environmental, safety, financial, and regulatory awareness.
- A general appreciation of financial reporting systems.
- Knowledge of project management
- Proficient in the use of Microsoft desktop such as Excel, Project etc
- Proficient in the use of AutoCAD and or Micro station
- Awareness of current and technological developments in distribution plant and equipment.
- Broad knowledge of cables and overhead lines
- Input into innovative construction ideas and techniques, which feed into UK Power Networks Green Action Plan
- Degree level or equivalent in engineering or science
- Working towards achieving Chartership
Nature and Scope:
The post holder is required to undertake site visits as part of this role, and this will include entry to operational substations where compliance with safety rules and procedures is mandatory.
