Job Purpose:

 

You will manage the team administering the preparation of electricity distribution connection agreements and to be a point of reference for technical and commercial aspects of such agreements and their associated electrical capacity management. To manage the team fulfilling the Unmetered Supplies Operator (UMSO) function, encompassing all aspects of unmetered apparatus inventory processing and compliance. To work with the business and legal department in the development of connection agreement terms to support fresh ways of working. To ensure compliance of this work with the regulatory and legal framework.

 

Dimensions

Team of 5 FTE

250 customer connection agreement and 150 unmetered supplies telephone enquiries per month.

1100 customer connection agreement and 300 unmetered supplies eMail enquiries each month.

250 customer connections records updated each month

200 unmetered supplies inventories processed each month

350 customer connection agreements and 50 unmetered connection agreements are sent out, returned and filed/scanned each month

 

Principal Accountabilities:

 

  • Manage the delivery of an effective connection agreement/available capacity administration service
  • Manage the provision of an organized UMSO service to fulfil industry code (BSC) obligations and requirements, ensuring UMSO compliance
  • Manage, engaging and developing the team providing these services, dealing with large usage customers, their consultants, electricity retailers, Independent Distribution Network Operators and their agents
  • Be a point of reference for the business regarding capacity management, reservation of capacity, connection agreement and ums matters
  • Develop connection agreement terms and be a point of focus for the business on them
  • Representation, requirement gathering, feedback and day after reporting for relevant industry working groups attended
  • Ensure own and team’s understanding of legal/regulatory context, in particular data protection, s105 Utilities Act, Electricity Act, Distribution Licence
  • Main point of interface between the Income Management and Connections and Asset Management departments
  • Provide electrical and commercial technical expertise to Income Management teams

 

Knowledge, Skills, Qualifications and Experience:

 

  • Educated to degree level or equivalent in an appropriate numerate discipline (such as mathematics, economics or engineering).
  • Extensive experience in an appropriate electrical engineering or commercially analytical, settlement or financial role, including experience of the UK electricity supply industry.
  • Managerial experience in an appropriate role.
  • Experienced in being an effective member of working groups.
  • Experienced in Industry representation with external partners (including regulatory bodies) or in customer relationships with strong negotiating skills.
  • Numerate and proficient in Access, Excel, and PowerPoint
  • Experienced in producing concise reports and papers and proficient in Word.
  • Produce written reports and papers and through delivery of presentations.
  • Ability to understand legal and regulatory concepts.

 

Nature and Scope:

 

You will report to the Income Services Manager and will manage the team which maintains customer capacity records, produces connection agreements and processes Unmetered Supplies inventory updates received from local authority and commercial organisations. 

You will be the point of reference for us and external partners regarding such matters as connections terms, the National Terms Of Connection, Unmetered Supplies (including the acceptability of new equipment), and capacity management.

They will help develop connection agreement terms and the connection agreements and unmetered supplies operator processes.

You will represent Income Management in relevant forums regarding industry programs and developments and will be involved in meetings with customers to discuss matters for which they are the point of reference.

Employees need to be aware that for some craft and operational roles that work at height, or use fall arrest devices, there is an upper weight limit of 116Kg due to maximum safe working load of the safety equipment that is used.
