This Project Controls and Planning Trainee - EPN will report to the Project Controls and Data Excellence Manager and will work within Capital Programme based in our Bury St Edmunds office. You will be a permanent employee.
You will attract a salary of £27,345 and a bonus of 3%. This role can also offer blended working after probationary period (6 months) - 3 days in the office and 2 remote

Job Purpose and Dimensions:
This role is ideal for individuals who are passionate about a career in project controls, planning, data management and analysis within engineering, construction and utilities. Individuals will have long-term career aspirations in construction planning and project management. You will work with experienced professionals to ensure the accuracy, integrity, and delivery of projects and data. You will learn the processes that UKPN CPP utilises to deliver over £300m per year and will help the project delivery teams to utilise these systems and their data to deliver projects to scope, time and budget.
You will focus on learning to utilise CPP's project controls systems (such as Primavera P6) and creating/preparing reports for the project teams (Excel/Power BI/Primavera Analytics). You will also be enrolled onto a Level 3 Project Controls Apprenticeship allowing you to work with a cohort of like minded individuals, learning and developing the core skills required to plan and manage projects and analyse progress and performance data.
Principal Accountabilities:
- Support the collection, validation, and analysis of project data.
- Support the creation and preparation of reports and analyses.
- Support the creation and preparation of P6 programmes alongside the planning team
- Analyse reports for performance trends and help with the upkeep of system wide data integrity
- Maintain and update project data records within CPP's data management systems such as Primavera P6.
- Help maintain the project documentation folder e.g. correct filing locations and version control
- Help to resolve data discrepancies and issues.
- Attend project meetings, record minutes and actions and chase up actions to completion
- Collaborate with project teams, communicating reports and analyses and help them to understand requirements for data consistency and accuracy.
- Contribute to the development and implementation of project controls best practices.
- Support the update of project controls documentation and processes
- Support the planning team in the delivery of key initiatives
- Commit to the learning and development of project controls and planning principles and their application within engineering, construction and utilities
- Commit to learning how to use the project controls systems utilised by UKPN CPP e.g. Primavera P6, Unifier, Oracle Primavera Cloud, SharePoint, Power BI
Nature And Scope:
You will join the CPP PMO and report into the area's lead planner.
You will collaborate with the wider project delivery team including project management, planning, commercial, design, procurement, consents, stakeholder engagement and commissioning.
You will undertake a Level 3 Project Controls Apprenticeship seeing it through to completion
Qualifications:
- GCSE English and Maths Grade 6 or equivalent or higher required, A Levels or equivalent preferred
- An interest in building a career in project controls, PMO and planning within engineering, construction and utilities
- Work experience within a project management/planning/data analysis setting desirable but not required
- Knowledge of project management principles and methodologies
- Enjoy learning
- An interest in data and process management for schedule, cost, quality, risk, change and performance
- An interest in data analysis and reporting
- Excellent planning, organisational skills
- The ability to resolve issues
- The ability to plan and execute work to meet deadlines
- An understanding of how to use standard Microsoft products such as Word, Excel, Teams, PowerPoint and SharePoint
- Conscientious with a desire for continuous improvement
