This Electrical Supervisor Overhead Lines will report to the Lead Operational Engineer and will work within UKPN Services based in our Bury St Edmunds office. You will be a permanent employee.

You will attract a salary of £51,245 plus car and a bonus of.3%.

Main Job Purpose:

You will manage the team, with focus on safety, time, cost, quality and utilisation, such that the work programme is delivered to the highest possible standard, and to our client's requirements. We ask that you have a sound understanding of cost and change management concerning changes in site work. You will manage circa 5-15 craft staff both direct and contractor.

 

You will need to be able to work independently, and be flexible in resolving problems. We ask that you are also able to develop a working relationship with the client.

 

You will incorporate the daily management of the craft and field staff team.

 

The position holder will ensure safety management throughout the team in all areas of your position's responsibility following the UK Power Networks Services Stay Safe directive

 

 

Principle Accountabilities:

  • Work with the Lead Operational Engineer to ensure that all programmes of work are delivered to time and budget following contractual commitments to time, cost and quality.
  • Work with Lead Operational Engineer, Operational Engineers, staff and Schedulers in the Region to ensure the best utilisation of all staff. Ensure utilisation of staff resources in compliance with company policies and
  • Manage resources for individual projects identifying any changes needed (people and equipment).
  • Follow Client and UK Power Networks Services Operations and Procedures
  • Ensure the compliance with the Distribution Safety Rules during all activities.
  • Ensure regular reporting of progress and performance to governance bodies and partners.
  • Ensure partners support for and perception of project performance and delivered value remains high i.e. are kept informed of project progress, change and risk
  • You will meet with UKPN Services' client's project managers and planners, to agree a resource programme of works, arrange the appropriate labour to be available to carry out the projects. Put operatives to work making sure they understand the tasks and use a safe system of work. Ensure projects team staff attend Tool Box talks and receive relevant site inductions.
  • Put staff and contractors to Work under a Safe System of Work, provide daily guidance of works on site, check Method Statements & Daily Point of Work Risk Assessments are in place
  • Oversee all contractors/staff working on site and training of Apprentices
  • Undertake site visits to survey planned works and collaborate with Main Contractors.
  • Order plant and material necessary for the project requirements.
  • Undertake additional activities determined by the job level and competency
  • Develop business relationship with the Clients Engineering and Project Management teams and their appointed principal contractors
  • Oversee excavating teams and contractors
  • Demonstrate visible leadership by regular site visits
  • Read and interpret utility drawings
  • Understand operational and 1:500 diagrams
  • Collaborate with the client and other partners to ensure project delivery
  • Be an ambassador for UK Power Networks Services and deliver excellent customer service.
  • Must have Overhead line experience

 

 

Nature and Scope

This is a Specified Role and is subject to pre-appointment drug screening following the UK Power Networks policy on "Alcohol and Drugs".

 

You will work as part of a team of technicians, jointers and fitters that report to the Lead Operational Engineer and have the support of experienced Field Engineers and Supervisors.

 

You will be predominantly based in the UK Power Networks Services area with work being undertaken on customer owned sites on a contractual basis. You will also travel and work anywhere within the UK on customer owned sites.

 

Skill and Educational Requirements

The following skills and attributes are important to this role:

  • City and Guilds 232 or 236.
  • NVQ level 3
  • NRSWA certification
  • Evidence of training, such as a CIS card, of a site supervisor or operative.
  • UKPN Substation entry, LV and HV competencies desirable.
  • Experience with electrical distribution and be familiar with organisational procedures and ensure their implementation at local level.
  • Experience of the Business from an operational and technical perspective
  • Understand the range and type of both professional and trade skills that are necessary in delivering field work.
  • Ideally, of a technical background; typically, from a Overhead line background.
  • We ask that you help achieve UK Power Networks' targets and goals.
  • You will either hold an Institute of Occupational Safety & Health (IOSH) certificate in managing health and safety, or be willing to obtain this IOSH certificate within a timescale agreed with your manager. (New recruits will have to pass the IOSH managing qualification within six months of being appointed to the role).
  • An understanding of the range and type of both professional and trade skills that are necessary in delivering field work is required.
  • Flexibility and able to work in a team environment.
  • Resolve issues in a practical way.
  • Able to work under pressure.
  • Must have a clean driving licence and be able to complete and pass an Airside driving test.
