This Commercial Project Manager will report to the Infrastructure Manager – Major Connections and will work within Major Connections based in our Bury St Edmunds office. You will be a permanent employee.

You will attract a salary of £80,574 and a bonus of 3%. This role can also offer blended working after probationary period (6 months) - 3 days in the office and 2 remote

Job Purpose

As the Commercial Project Manager you will manage several Major Connections infrastructure projects and to ensure successful pre and post contract management of all projects to exceed the customer expectations. The schemes will likely cover all three UKPN Networks, although initially the majority of the work will be in the EPN area. Typical clients include National Grid, National Highways, Network Rail, HS2 among others. The projects will include diversions across all voltage levels together with the provision of new supplies for construction works and provide long-term power for the clients following completion, and would consist of programmes of work to meet customer timescales. To complete project management through the full life cycle of the project from initial enquiry through to post investment appraisal.

Principal Accountabilities

  • Manage projects throughout their lifecycle from enquiry, through quotation/delivery and on to completion following PG and C process.
  • Liaison with Asset Management regarding diversions and to obtain point of connection information, and develop strategies for delivering customer requirements.
  • Produce quotations in line with:
    • Our Licence conditions ensuring regulatory compliance of all projects (LC12, LC15, LC15a),
    • Connection Charging Methodology,
    • New Road and Street Works Act, where applicable.
  • The design process requires network analysis and the production of detailed drawings (via Netmap).
  • Liaison with Capital Programme delivery team and delivery partners; both during the Design and Programme Delivery for the pricing and delivery of diversions and new connections solutions.
  • Manage the delivery of diversions and new connections major projects, when required to do so.
  • Manage the financial control of projects, ensuring the delivery of planned Gross Margins.
  • Ensure design compliance with CDM.
  • Work with customers and government offices to progress long-term strategies for diversions and connection of new load for expanding development areas.
  • Liaison across the company with marketing and key account management, finance, legal, regulation and network governance to ensure a consistent and appropriate strategy.
  • Manage workload and take full responsibility and ownership of the success of projects.
  • An understanding of the LV, HV and EHV networks in one or more of the footprints would be advantageous. A can do and customer friendly attitude is most important with keenness to exceed customer expectations.
  • Presentations to external customers and UK Power Networks senior management will be required of you

Knowledge, Skills, Qualifications & Experience

  • A Degree, HNC or equivalent qualification in Electrical Engineering and recent relevant project management experience in the electrical industry, and distribution networks (design or construction).
  • An understanding and use of Microsoft Office packages Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Project.
  • Experience of the Project Governance and Control process and a strong commercial awareness would be advantageous.
