This Technical Support Assistant will report to the Lead Design Engineer and will work within Connections Projects EPN directorate based in our St Neots office. You will be a permanent employee.

You will attract a salary of £37,165 and a bonus of 3%

Job Purpose:

To provide technical support to the Design Team and customer whilst maintaining a level of customer service. You will help produce quotes for customers requesting connection to UKPN's Electricity network. We ask that you have a level of technical awareness in electricity and some knowledge of the wider electrical industry.

 

Principal Accountabilities:

  • Understand customer's technical requirements and obtain all the relevant information from them to ensure that we can provide the customer with a quotation for the costs of connection
  • Undertake simple point of connection (POC) analysis using network records and other company systems, particularly smaller generation applications.
  • You will produce simple estimates for works and produce customer point of connection offers.
  • Review costs against budget for projects delivered and identify under or over expenditure
  • You will assist project designers with the processing of more complex projects
  • Ensure that the team works within the regulatory framework to minimise complaints
  • Work with the wider Connections team ensure that the business achieves its financial, quality, safety, and customer service main performance targets
  • You will be aware and understand the requirements of Health, Safety and Sustainability (HSS) relevant to your role
  • Have an appreciation of network records and basic LV network operational procedures to identify a point of connection
  • Help the business to deliver excellent standards of customer service and participate in training programs
  • Attitude and commitment - positive contribution to our goals and a wiliness to learn to achieve continuous improvement in the business and individually

 

Qualifications:

Essential

  • Already be in possession of City & Guilds 232 in Electrical Engineering, or working towards this (or similar) qualification- Please note if you hold a BEng or MEng you will not be suitable as its more of a clerical biased position.
  • Understanding of the electricity networks regulatory framework
  • Experience working in an office-based environment utilising Microsoft packages, SAP and Netmap
  • Customer-focused
  • You will work to a high standard of detail and accuracy

Nature and Scope:

The Connections Directorate designs and undertakes new and altered electricity connections within the UK Power Networks Licence areas. Reporting to your Line Manager (Lead Design Engineer), you will deliver the highest level of customer service whilst also providing accurate technical support to customers both internally and externally. The Technical Support Assistant will work with the Designers Engineers and gain knowledge and training of electrical design and pricing.

As Technical Support Assistant, you will demonstrate the ability to work in a time-sensitive, compliance driven environment and have the ability to provide technical support to customers and the current Design Team. This role may require some travel and the jobholder maybe required to provide cover at any of UK Power Networks' offices.

This role would suit applicants with limited technical/electrical knowledge who are looking to further develop and fulfil a career in the Electricity Industry.
