    Job Purpose

    Project Allenby Connaught is a 35-year contract with the Ministry of Defence to upgrade operate, and complete the life cycle maintenance of electrical utility assets, together with a capital expenditure programme for the supply of infrastructure and connections to new and refurbished accommodation, dining, training blocks and sports facilities. 

 

  • Principal Accountabilities

  • Ensure that a high standard of safety management prevails throughout all areas of responsibility and that safety performance is maintained within parameters defined by UK Power Networks. Promote the Incident and Injury free philosophy.
  • Promote Company’s initiatives and actively support the development and operation of the Company’s quality systems.
  • To identify client project requirements and exceed in client delivery expectations in verification and validation of requirements.
  • Manage projects throughout their lifecycle from Enquiry, through Quotation and on to completion in line with project processes.
  • Manage the financial control of projects, ensuring the delivery of planned Gross Margins.
  • Manage sub-contractors.
  • Ensure design and construction compliance with CDM.
  • Produce quotations in line with client & UKPN Services governance procedure.
  • Effectively manage workload. Take full responsibility and ownership of the success of projects.
  • An understanding of the HV and LV networks and civils groundworks would be advantageous; a can do and customer friendly attitude is most important.
  • Presentations to external customers and UK Power Networks senior management will require the candidate to display confidence and a professional attitude.
  • To liaise closely with the Project Design team in prioritising the critical capital workload and lifecycle works ensuring that projects are completed in a timely manner.
  • Ensuring staff comply with Company procedures and deliver work to the required standards.
  • Programme coordination in order to carry out connections, maintenance, planned repairs and infrastructure projects so that they are delivered in a safe, timely and cost efficient manner.
  • Support daily planning, co-ordination and real time responsibility for the efficient utilisation of resources including directly employed staff and, if appropriate, contractors. Ensuring that sufficient work is available at all times in order to maximise the utilisation of resources.
  • Removal of barriers to the efficient delivery of work within and across all directorates.
  • Establishing a process of continuous improvement through Individual Performance Review, the development of staff and utilisation of new technology.

     

  • Dimensions

  • Staff: six to eight direct reports
  • Turnover: circa £12M per annum
  • Although based at the sites above and principally working on the Allenby Project the candidate will be expected to develop their skills and authorisations to be able to work on any future projects within UKPN Services.

     

    Knowledge, Skills, Qualifications & Experience

    The successful candidate will have both a high degree of practical site experience and be able to demonstrate a high level of initiative and commitment towards UKPN’s safety culture. The successful candidate will be someone who inspires those he/she mentors, setting the highest of standards in all areas including professional conduct. The role requires good communication skills and the ability to liaise with other

    An HNC in Electrical or Civil Engineering is the preferred requirement. However, applications from candidates with a strong track record and experience in site construction, project delivery of distribution networks (design or construction) in addition to staff management would be welcomed.

     

    An understanding and use of Microsoft Office packages Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Project.

     

    Experience of the Project Governance and Control process and a strong commercial awareness is critical.

     

    Additional base level qualifications/courses are as follows:-

  • IOSH or NEBOSH Certificate.
  • Applicants must be able to achieve full Ministry of Defence Security Clearance.
  • Full UK driving licence

    Health & Safety Requirements

    Must be committed to the General Safety Policy statement, Zero Harm and any related safety programmes, must be aware of his/her contribution, including the requirement to monitor safety performance and compliance with the systems established to assist in maintaining high safety standards.

     

    Must be familiar with the safety legislation that is relevant to his/her post and comply with the necessary statutory requirements. These will include the Health & Safety at Work Act, Fire Precautions Act and associated regulations. Ensure that the services provided in their area are in compliance with all relevant safety and legal requirements.
